Laying wood flooring

The basement of our family house has bare rough concrete flooring, which can be somewhat dusty, rough and tiring for the legs. Hence, I decided to spent a few weekends to lay wooden flooring.

The first step was to smoothen the floor as there was uneven spots and surface blisters – not resolving this now will result in problem in the long term. For this, I used the Hilti concrete grinder + industrial vacuum cleaner. It was still very dusty – I had to wear goggles and mask.

Next, I went to the hardware shop and bought the waterproofing sheets, 8mm under-flooring foam and laminate wood flooring. Laminate was chosen as it’s much more cost effective than solid wood, and SPC is not suitable as the original floor is still not sufficiently even and unlevelled. All the materials are laid out in the adjacent room.

Started laying the laminate above the foam and waterproofing sheets.

After many hours working alone, finally it’s almost done. The skirting is added later. Now, I had to move the workbench and the mitre saw station to this room, so that I can continue laying the flooring in the adjacent room.

Finally, the door had to be trimmed (by roughly 1cm) as it’s scrapping the floor. For that I used a Hilti circular saw + guide rail. In this image, it can be seen that this room will be my ‘workshop’ where all the home maintenance and DIY hobbies take place.
